Image by Dekuwa via FlickrToday the folks at T-Mobile made the announcement about their new phone, The G1. If you think this is just another iPhone knock off, you may be right.
Here are some of the features that the phone offers you;
One Touch Google Search
Touch Screen
Customizable Home Screen
Full QWERTY keyboard
3 megapixel camera
Google Maps Street View
What is it missing? A headphone jack. A lot of people are going to buy a phone like this, which is kind of bulky, to use as a one stop shop for everything. Without a headphone jack, those people will have to lug around the iPod and the G1 at the same time. This is also the first phone to be powered by the Google Android.
The phone is relatively cheap though. $180 dollars with a 2 year contract.
Another bad thing about the phone is that if you aren't in what they are calling a 3G area, you can't use all of the functions and it seems like only major metropolitan areas will be covered by 3G on launch day, which is October 22, 2008.
I'm sticking with my out of stock MDA for now.
